Kerala journalist with state accreditation among 15 others detained in Mangaluru

It is reported that one among the detained journalists in Mangaluru possesses state accreditation. Most of the journalists detained in the city are from Kerala.
Mangaluru Police have detained over 15 journalists while covering the post-mortem of two people who died in police firing at the Wenlock hospital, Mangaluru. Police said that they questioned the journalists as they did not carry accreditation cards issued by any authority.
According to sources, a majority of journalists detained in Mangaluru work for Malayalam TV channels.

According to sources, one among the detained journalists, from News 18, did possess an accreditation card.
Journalists are issued accreditation cards by the state and Central government, which grant access to state Assemblies, Parliament and other government events. But it is not necessary for journalists to possess the card to cover regular events and news, and there are no inter-state accreditation cards.
Kerala Director General of Police (DGP) Lokanath Behra on December 20 said that the Karnataka DGP has assured him that journalists from Kerala, who were detained yesterday, after the protest over the newly amended citizenship law turned violent, will be released.
