Kerala forest officials die while fighting wildfire in Thrissur

Synopsis

 Three forest department officials were on Sunday charred to death in a wildfire at Wadakkancherry, Thrissur, Kerala                     


Thrissur: Three forest officials lost their lives on February 16 in a wildfire at HNL Plantation in Poongode Forest Station area, Wadakkanchery, Thrissur, Kerala.

The deceased are identified as forest watchers Divakaran, Shankar and Velayudhan. The three reportedly lost their lives while trying to douse the fire.

Preliminary reports suggested that the fire which spread into the forest is still not under control.

Firefighters’ operations are underway and the senior forest officials are camping in the area. 

Regarding the incident, forest minister K Raju expressed his condolences. The department has allotted preliminary monetary assistance to the families of the deceased. Compensation for the families of the deceased and the injured will be decided soon, the minister said in a statement.
