
Idukki: Two people were injured in a lightning strike in Karunapuram on Monday (Oct 24). Sunil Kumar and his son Sreenath were injured. Both of them were shifted to Theni Medical College.
The incident happened when they reached home after the funeral of his relative in Pampady. Sunil and his son, Sreenath, were sitting inside the house after dinner. Suddenly, the lightning struck, and both of them were injured. Sunil suffered injuries to his head and legs. Both of them were taken to Nedumkandam Taluk Hospital, and after initial treatment, they were shifted to Theni Medical College.
Sreenath is a ninth-grade student at Kallar Government Higher Secondary School. The relatives informed them that Sreenath health condition is under control. However, Sunil is still undergoing treatment at Theni Medical College.
There was heavy rain along with thunder in the Idukki area last night. Karunapuram, Kootar, Third Camp, Ramakkalmedu, Hanggupalam, Mundiyeruma, Nedumkandam, Parathode, Udumbanchola, and other areas received heavy rain for four hours on Monday.
Last week, a person was injured after lightning struck Nedumkandam in Idukki district. The house was partially destroyed. The district administration has issued a lightning alert after the incident.
At the same time, the coconut tree fell on top of the house due to the strong wind in Haripad. The sick elderly woman and her family miraculously escaped unhurt. The incident happened after the strong winds that occurred on Friday night. An elderly woman who cannot walk unaided and a differently-abled son live in the house. Her daughter, who lives next door, was also inside the house when the incident took place.
