Synopsis

Union minister Prakash Javadekar said that the Central government has taken a “very serious note” of the killing of the pregnant elephant in Kerala

New Delhi: Taking a “very serious note” of the death of a pregnant wild elephant in Kerala's Silent Valley Forest, Union environment minister Prakash Javadekar on Thursday (June 4) sought a complete report and assured stern action against the culprits.

Javadekar took to Twitter and stated, "Central Government has taken a very serious note of the killing of an elephant in Mallapuram, #Kerala. We will not leave any stone unturned to investigate properly and nab the culprit(s). This is not an Indian culture to feed fire crackers and kill.@moefcc @PIB_India @PIBHindi (sic)."

A pregnant wild elephant in Silent Valley Forest had fallen victim to an act of human cruelty on May 27 after a pineapple filled with powerful crackers offered by a man exploded in her mouth when she chomped on it.

The postmortem revealed that the pachyderm was pregnant.

Her jaw was broken and she was unable to eat after she chewed the pineapple and it exploded in her mouth.

Earlier on Wednesday, Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan had assured of strict action against those responsible for the killing. The chief minister also informed that the forest department is probing the case and the culprits will be punished.
