Kerala: COVID-19 negative certificates should be mandatory for Sabarimala devotees, says committee

Minister Kadakampally Surendran said the government will examine the recommendations of the panel in detail on October 7  

Pathanamthitta: An expert committee recommended that COVID-19 negative certificates should be mandatory for devotees to visit the Sabarimala shrine. A report regarding this has been submitted by the expert panel to the government.

Regarding this, Kerala Devaswom minister Kadakampally Surendran said the government will examine the recommendations. It is also to be noted that the Cabinet which will meet on October 7 will take a decision regarding this.

According to reports, devotees who reach the shrine with the negative report should be allowed to take up a fresh test at the entry point of the shrine. Devotees who are above the age of 60 should also have a certificate claiming that they don't suffer from other illnesses.

From Monday to Friday, pilgrims should be allowed to enter the shrine and 2,000 devotees should be permitted on Saturdays and Sundays, suggested the expert committee. The committee added that a base camp at Nilackal should be opened for COVID tests and screening of devotees.
