Karnataka’s disqualified MLA: When Savadi can be made Deputy CM, why can’t we be given ministership?

Synopsis

Disqualified MLA AH Vishwanath in his demand for a ministerial berth questioned Karnataka chief minister BS Yediyurappa as to why they can’t be made ministers when Laxman Savadi who lost elections can be appointed Deputy CM

Bengaluru: Apparently, Karnataka Cabinet expansion still looks like a far-fetched dream as BJP has not been able to build consensus on the newly elected 11 MLAs.

Karnataka chief minister BS Yediyurappa is plagued with the challenge of accommodating the demands of the newly elected MLAs for Cabinet berths while balancing the wishes of the other BJP leaders. However, in a new headache, disqualified MLAs who lost bypolls are pressuring the chief minister to give them ministerial berths.

Disqualified MLA and former minister AH Vishwanath who lost bypolls to Congress’ HP Manjunath is now demanding a ministerial berth citing the example of deputy chief minister Laxman Savadi.

Speaking to reporters, AH Vishwanath said that there is nothing wrong in aspiring for a ministerial berth though they lost the elections. Vishwanath questioned, “When Laxman Savadi who lost elections can be made deputy chief minister, why can’t we be made ministers?”

"

Yediyurappa has been under tremendous pressure from ministerial aspirants, including newly elected legislators. This included ministerial aspirants such as Ramesh Jarkiholi, Shrimant Patil, Mahesh Kumathalli, BC Patil and others.

Yediyurappa has time and again reiterated that only 11 MLAs who won the bypolls will be made ministers. Now we’ll have to see how he solves this new headache.

Yediyurappa is still waiting to get a green signal from the party bosses in Delhi owing to the growing differences over the number of disqualified MLAs.

When will Cabinet expansion take place? Will chief minister Yediyurappa be able to accommodate disqualified MLAs into his Cabinet, only time will tell.
