Karnataka mosques threatened; Muslim girls told to marry Hindus

The intention of letters sent to the mosques was to warn the Muslim community and make them support Citizenship Amendment Act, 2019 and National Register of Citizens.  

Bengaluru: As many as 15 mosques in Karnataka state have received threat letters through post on January 25. The letters were sent in the name of BJP MLAs Anand Singh and Somashekara Reddy.

According to reports, the intention of the letters is to warn the Muslim community and make them support Citizenship Amendment Act, 2019 and National Register of Citizens

In the letter:

The letter states that if Muslims want to be in India, they should convert to Hinduism and Muslim girls must marry Hindus. It also said that the mosques should be converted to Hindu temples and Muslims should follow Hinduism.

The letter also stated that the sender was happy that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Amit Shah implemented the Citizenship Amendment Act and the National Register of Citizens.

Muslim community leaders have lodged a complaint with Superintendent of Police Ram Niwas Sepat in this regard.

Citizens also allege that the “BJP MLAs”, or whoever the senders of the threat letters are, may also be linked to the Church attack that took place recently in Karnataka.

St Francis of Assisi Church in Karnataka's Bengaluru was allegedly attacked by unidentified miscreants on January 20. The miscreants desecrated the sanctum and threw away items used for Holy Communion.

The Citizenship Amendment Act, 2019 grants Indian citizenship to Hindu, Christian, Sikh, Buddhist, and Parsi refugees from Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh and who entered India on or before December 31, 2014.
