Karnataka Legislative Council polls: Spike in polling percentage at Northeast Teachers constituency

Elections to four seats of the Karnataka Legislative Council are in progress. The polling percentage until 12pm stood at 36.49% in North East Teachers (Kalaburgi), Bangalore Teachers at 32%, Southeast Graduates (Bengaluru) at 24% and West Graduates (Belagavi) at 24.89%.

Bengaluru: The Legislative Council elections are underway in Karnataka on Wednesday for four seats. This has been the first election taking place in the state amid the pandemic.

The polling percentage until 12pm stood at 36.49% in North East Teachers (Kalaburgi), Bangalore Teachers at 32%, Southeast Graduates (Bengaluru) at 24% and West Graduates (Belagavi) at 24.89%.

Earlier, the polling percentage until 10am was 8.34% at North East Teachers (Kalaburgi), Bangalore Teachers at 10%, Southeast Graduates (Bengaluru) at 7% and West Graduates (Belagavi) at 7.49%.

The polls are being conducted to elect representatives of four seats, the Karnataka Southeast Graduates, Karnataka West Graduates, Karnataka Northeast Teachers and Bangalore Teachers constituencies, in the 75-member Council.

A total of 40 candidates are in line for the polls, which had to take place before June 30, but were delayed because of the pandemic situation.

While 2,34,718 voters will cast their votes today, arrangements have been made at 549 polling stations.

Meanwhile, the counting of votes is scheduled to take place on November 2, a day before the byelections to RR Nagar and Sira assembly constituencies.
