Karnataka HC questions Ramangara DC for granting permission for Nikhil Kumaraswamy’s wedding

Synopsis

While hearing the public interest litigation, Karnataka high court questioned the role of Ramanagara district commissioner for not imposing any cap on visitors and giving blanket permission to former CM HD Kumaraswamy to conduct his son’s wedding during lockdown

Ramanagara: After conducting son Nikhil Kumaraswamy’s wedding, former Karnataka CM HD Kumaraswamy is in trouble as the high court has now questioned the decision of Ramanagara deputy commissioner. He was questioned for granting permission and not capping the number of attendees.

The division bench, comprising Chief Justice Abhay Sreenivas Oka and Justice BV Nagarathna,  cornered the state government based on the PIL demanding action against former CM Kumaraswamy for violation of lockdown and social distancing norms.

The court has now directed the government to submit details about vehicle movement and the number of passes issued for wedding. And the matter will once again come up for hearing on May 12. The court also observed that many had cancelled their wedding owing to lockdown.

Earlier, ministry of home affairs (MHA) granted permission for wedding ceremonies to take place from May 1, and capped the limit of attendees to 50 people only and made social distancing compulsory.
