Karnataka government to set up 3,200-acre industrial park in land of gold

Synopsis

Karnataka minister of large and medium scales industries Jagadish Shettar initiated talks with Union minister for mines Pralhad Joshi. 3,2000 acres of land in Kolar will be used for industrial development.

Bengaluru: A 3,200-acre industrial park will be set up in Karnataka's Kolar also known as the land of gold.

The announcement was made by the minister of industries Jagadish Shettar on Friday, after acquiring the huge land from the no longer existing state-run Bharat Gold Mines Ltd (BGML).

"We are in discussions with the Centre to acquire the unused land, owned by Kolar Gold Fields (KGF) of BGML, to set up an industrial park in Kolar," said industries minister Jagadish Shettar.

Jagadish Shettar initiated talks with Union minister for mines Pralhad Joshi, who also holds the portfolio for coal and parliamentary affairs and is a BJP Lok Sabha member from Dharwad in the state`s northwest region.

"The state mines and geology department will survey the land in six months to ensure that it no longer has natural resources (gold mines) beneath it," said Jagadish Shettar.

It is reported that the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB) will acquire the land from the Union ministry of mines for setting up the industrial park.

The industrial park will be strategically located 90km from the Bengaluru International airport, 260km from the Chennai seaport, and 315km from the Krishnapatanam port in Nellore in Andhra Pradesh.
