Ayodhya Verdict Mystery: Judge Reveals Strange Monkey Incident After 1986 Court Ruling

Synopsis

Justice Krishna Mohan Pandey, who ordered the locks of the Ram Janmabhoomi to be opened in 1986, shared a fascinating story in his autobiography. On the day of the verdict, a black monkey appeared at the court and later at his bungalow, which he believed was a divine sign.

The grand Ram Mandir in Ayodhya is the result of the sacrifices and struggles of many people over 500 years. Even today, you hear some people, including some Hindus, questioning the existence of Lord Ram and Hanuman. But that's a matter of personal faith. What's clear is that Lord Ram holds a deep place in the hearts of crores of Hindus and people from other faiths too. There are plenty of examples of this.

One such goosebump-inducing story comes from Justice Krishna Mohan Pandey, who delivered a crucial verdict on the Ram Janmabhoomi case on February 1, 1986. In his 1991 autobiography, "Voice of Conscience," he recounted a truly incredible event. On that day, he had ordered that Hindus be allowed to worship inside the disputed structure.

In his autobiography, Justice Pandey wrote, "On the day I passed the orders to open the temple locks, a black monkey sat on the roof of the courtroom for the entire day, holding the flagpole. The thousands of people from Faizabad and Ayodhya who were there to hear the final orders offered him peanuts and various fruits. Strangely, the monkey didn't touch any of it. It left the spot only at 4:40 PM, after the final verdict was announced. The District Magistrate and the SSP then escorted me to my bungalow. And there it was—the same monkey was on my veranda. I was surprised to see him. I considered him a divine power and offered my respects."

Harassment from the State Government!

At the same time, Justice Pandey also revealed some shocking details about what he faced from the Uttar Pradesh state government, then led by Mulayam Singh Yadav. After he allowed Hindus to worship at the site, threats started coming from Pakistan. But he also had to face injustice within India. The Mulayam Singh Yadav-led state government blocked his promotion. "I had to approach the court to get my promotion," he wrote. Justice Pandey also mentioned that his daughter was harassed in her classroom by members of a specific community after the verdict.

A Nephew's Memory

Justice Pandey's nephew, Sujit Pandey, remembers his uncle researching the case for 8 hours a day. This went on for about six months, but he never told anyone which case he was working on. Sujit Pandey also shared that an astrologer, Professor Kunne, had told his uncle that he would be transferred to a small district and gain fame after the transfer, and that he shouldn't refuse it. When Justice Pandey was transferred to Faizabad and the Ayodhya case came before him, he realised it was all coming true. He then worked day and night to deliver the verdict.
