Synopsis

A Delhi court rejected Enforcement Directorate's application seeking Chidambaram's remand for one more day and has sent the veteran Congress leader to judicial custody till November 13

New Delhi: A Delhi court has sent veteran Congress leader P Chidambaram to judicial custody till November 13. Chidambaram was arrested in connection with the INX Media case.

The court has rejected the Enforcement Directorate’s application that sought the former finance minister’s remand for one more day.

Chidambaram, earlier on Wednesday, had moved the Delhi high court, seeking interim bail in the INX Media money laundering case on health grounds. The bench allowed it to be listed for hearing on Thursday.

Earlier, a Delhi court had reserved the order on plea by the Enforcement Directorate for one-day custody of Congress leader P Chidambaram.

The ED had sought custody to interrogate INX Media money laundering case accused Chidambaram

Arguing the case on behalf of the ED, solicitor general Tushar Mehta told the court that they would like to effectively use the one day left with them.

Senior advocate Kapil Sibal, appearing for 74-year-old former finance minister Chidambaram, had said the ED did not confront Chidambaram for 14 days.

Chidambaram was earlier sent to ED custody on October 24 till October 30.
