Indian Navy's MiG 29K aircraft crashes in Goa during sortie; pilot makes it out safe

Synopsis

A MiG 29K aircraft on a training sortie crashed in Goa. The pilot managed to escape. This is the second mishap involving a MiG-29K aircraft in the state

Panaji: A MIG 29K aircraft on a routine training sortie crashed in Goa on February 23.  The pilot of the aircraft ejected safely and has been found. No reports of injury have been reported in relation to the crash.

According to reports the causes of the crash has been attributed to a “technical snag” in the twin-engine, single-seater aircraft.

However, an investigation will be conducted to determine what exactly caused the aircraft to crash as this is the second mishap involving a MiG-29K aircraft in Goa in the last three months.

On November 16 last year, a MiG-29K trainer aircraft crashed outside Verna village in South Goa district. In that incident too, both pilots managed to eject safely from the aircraft.

The Indian Navy in a statement said, "Today at around 10:30 am, a MiG-29K aircraft, on a routine training sortie, crashed in Goa. The pilot of the aircraft ejected safely and has been recovered. An enquiry to investigate the incident has been ordered."

Further details are awaited.
