Synopsis

India neutralised Pakistan’s air defence system in Lahore in a precision strike after foiling drone and missile attacks on Indian military bases overnight.

India on Thursday confirmed it has effectively countered Pakistan’s latest attempts to escalate tensions by targeting Indian military installations across Northern and Western India. In a swift and calibrated response, Indian Armed Forces struck and neutralised Pakistani Air Defence Radars and systems at multiple locations — including a key installation in Lahore.

According to the government, Pakistan launched a wave of drone and missile attacks late last night and into the early hours of Thursday, targeting strategic military locations in Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, and Gujarat. Among the Indian cities on the radar were Srinagar, Pathankot, Amritsar, Ludhiana, and Chandigarh. The offensive, however, was foiled by India’s robust air defence network, which intercepted and disabled the incoming threats.

In response, Indian forces undertook targeted strikes against Pakistani air defence infrastructure. “Today morning Indian Armed Forces targeted Air Defence Radars and systems at a number of locations in Pakistan. Indian response has been in the same domain with same intensity as Pakistan. It has been reliably learnt that an Air Defence system at Lahore has been neutralised,” the government said in a statement.

LoC Tensions Escalate: 16 Civilians Killed in Pakistani Shelling

Simultaneously, Pakistan has escalated firing across the Line of Control (LoC), targeting civilian areas in Kupwara, Baramulla, Uri, Poonch, Mendhar, and Rajouri sectors using mortars and heavy artillery. Sixteen civilians, including three women and five children, have tragically lost their lives. Indian forces were compelled to respond with precision artillery to silence the Pakistani guns.

The attempted Pakistani aggression comes just a day after India launched Operation Sindoor — a coordinated precision strike targeting nine terrorist camps, four in Pakistan and five in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). Conducted over a 25-minute window beginning at 1:05 am on Wednesday, the operation saw the use of advanced munitions including HAMMER smart bombs and SCALP missiles to demolish terrorist headquarters and training centres.

India’s Warning: Response Will Match Any Provocation

The Indian military had made it clear during a press briefing that Operation Sindor was based on actionable intelligence and deliberately avoided hitting Pakistani military facilities. Officials described it as “focused, measured, and non-escalatory.” However, the armed forces also issued a stern warning: “It was also reiterated that any attack on military targets in India will invite a suitable response.”

“Indian Armed Forces reiterate their commitment to non-escalation, provided it is respected by the Pakistani military,” the statement concluded.
