Hospital swaps body of COVID-19 victim with another corpse, buries wrong patient

A government hospital in Andhra Pradesh's Kurnool buried the body of a non-Covid-19 patient, instead of a patient who died of the virus  

According to reports, a government hospital in Andhra Pradesh buried the body of a non-Covid-19 patient, instead of a patient who died of the virus. A three-member committee has been formed to probe the incident.

The incident occurred in Kurnool Government General Hospital.

The incident came to light, when hospital authorities tried to hand over the infected person’s body to relatives. When family members saw the body, they were shocked and protested.

According to reports, Ram Babu of Budhawarapeta was admitted to hospital on May 7 after he had displayed symptoms of coronavirus. After his death, two days later, his test results came back negative.

On May 9, a 36-year-old from S Nagappa Street was admitted to hospital and he died the next day. His samples tested positive for the virus. 

However, Ram Babu’s body was taken to a particular site and buried as per the protocol on Monday night. The next morning, his relatives arrived at the GGH mortuary and questioned the staff.
