Heavy rain takes a toll on North Karnataka

Synopsis

As per the Indian Meteorological Department report, the rains and thundershowers will continue till October 16. And districts in Coastal Karnataka and North Interior Karnataka will witness more rains.

North Karnataka's rain-affected districts are set to get more downpour over the next 24 hours. Interior parts of North Karnataka are battling floods. 

The Indian Meteorological Department says that heavy rains and thundershowers will continue till October 16. On Wednesday, the state had declared ten districts in the red alert zone. 

The heavy rains have resulted flood-like the situation in Dharwad, Hubballi. Heavy rains have also been reported in Vijayapura, Raichur, Bidar Kalburgi, Koppal.

Many districts also lost thousands of acres of paddy and other crops like sugarcane and tur. Many villages are submerged and homes flooded.

Once the situation improves, Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa is likely to inspect and may approach the central government for relief package.
