
Kolkata: Former Lok Sabha MP and Communist party leader Gurudas Dasgupta passed away on Thursday in his residence in Kolkata at around 6 am. He was suffering from heart and kidney related ailments. He was suffering from lung cancer for the last several months.
Dasgupta was just three days short of his 83rd birthday on November 3.
The late CPI leader became a member of the Rajya Sabha in 1985 following which he was elected as the general secretary of the All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) in 2001. He was elected to the 11th Lok Sabha from Panskura. In 2009, he was elected to the 15th Lok Sabha from Ghatal in West Bengal. He was a member of the joint parliamentary committee (JPC) that probed the 2G spectrum case.
Dasgupta was known for his great oratory skills.
