As shocking as it may sound, Facebook helped Tamil Nadu police crack a seven-year-old murder case in Chennai on Wednesday.
It all started when Mani and his wife returned from abroad in 2009 to settle in Nanniyur area of Trichy. But after he suspected his wife of infidelity, he slit her throat and has been absconding ever since, until he was found in Chennai earlier this week.
He confessed to the police that after he had killed his wife he moved to Chennai and started a new life with a new identity and started working in a restaurant in the city.
But a picture taken in the restaurant got him into trouble after one of his relatives saw it on Facebook. He informed his other family members who had assumed that he was dead, and they all went to the restaurant to catch him red handed.
According to the city police, he was first produced in the judicial magistrate court which has now sent him to the Trichy Centra Prison while he awaits trial.
