Earthquake of 4.7 magnitude jolts Ladakh's Kargil

Synopsis

In the second such tremor in less than a week's time, Ladakh was hit by an earthquake of magnitude 4.7 on the Richter scale in the wee hours today.  

Kargil: An earthquake of magnitude 4.7 on the Richter scale struck Kargil in Ladakh at 3.37 am on Sunday (July 5, 2020). The earthquake struck 433 km north-northwest of Kargil.

"An earthquake with a magnitude of 4.7 on the Richter Scale hit 433km NNW of Kargil, Ladakh today at 3:37 am," said National Center for Seismology (NCS).

While its magnitude was recorded at 4.7 on the Richter scale, it had a depth of 134 km.

No loss of life or property due to the quake has been reported as of now.

Earlier on Thursday, another earthquake of magnitude 4.5 on the Richter scale had struck Kargil in Ladakh at 1.11 pm. The quake had struck 119 km north-northwest of Kargil.
