Dr Vandana murder case: Kerala govt opposes plea seeking CBI probe

Dr. Vandana Das was stabbed to death at a taluk hospital in Kottarakkara by a man who was brought there by police after being involved in a fight with his family members. According to an officer of Kottarakkara police station, while a wound on the man's leg was being dressed by the doctor, he suddenly got provoked and attacked everyone standing there using a scissor and scalpel.

Thiruvananthapuram: The state government informed the Kerala High Court on Friday that the incident involving the gruesome murder of Dr. Vandana Das, a house surgeon, at Kottarakkara Taluk Hospital on May 10 does not require a CBI investigation. 

In opposition to the plea for a CBI investigation made by Vandana's parents, K G Mohandas and T Vasanthakumari of Kottayam, additional public prosecutor P Narayanan argued that the request is not maintainable because the investigation is being carried out in a highly professional and effective manner.

The affidavit was submitted in response to a writ petition that the deceased doctor's father, K.G. Mohandas, filed asking for a CBI investigation into the case. Sandeep, who the police had brought in for medical attention after suffering injuries in a fight, killed the house surgeon by stabbing her multiple times.

The affidavit stated that the probe team was working in the right direction and the investigation will be completed within the statutory period. 

The 23-year-old doctor, a native of the Kaduthuruthy area of Kottayam district, was the only child of her parents and was a house surgeon at Azeezia Medical College Hospital. She was working at the Kottarakkara taluk hospital in Kollam district as part of her training when in the early hours of May 10 she was stabbed multiple times by G Sandeep, a school teacher, who was brought there by police for medical treatment. She succumbed to her injuries a few hours later.
