Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev, the spiritual leader, stated on Wednesday that worries over air pollution should not be used to discourage children from enjoying the joy of firecrackers. The announcement comes at a time when the country is split over the use of fireworks. Taking to Twitter, the leader urged adults to let their children enjoy the delight of cracking crackers. Sadhguru stated in a video uploaded on Twitter that he has not lighted a cracker in many years.

Reminiscing, he stated that they used to dream about crackers and that after Diwali, they would preserve the crackers for the following one to two months. Meanwhile, while wishing everyone a happy Diwali, Sadhguru noted that lighting up with pleasure, love, and consciousness is critical in times of crisis that might plunge one into darkness. He went on to say that this Diwali, people should light up their humanity to its maximum potential.

Previously, the Supreme Court overturned a broad ban on firecrackers issued by West Bengal's Calcutta High Court. The court determined that certified green crackers can be marketed and burst in regions with "excellent" or "moderate" air quality. A Supreme Court vacation bench issued the order. The panel considered two petitions that contested the Calcutta High Court's broad prohibition on firecrackers, including green crackers. Firecracker sellers filed the applications.
On Wednesday, Delhi's air quality deteriorated, falling into the "extremely bad" category for the first time this season. According to the Central Pollution Control Board, the city's overall air quality index (AQI) was 303 on Tuesday.
