The body of Tarishi Jain, a 19-year-old lone Indian who was killed in the Dhaka attack on Saturday, was cremated in Gurgaon on Monday."She was supposed to come down from Dhaka to meet us. Now we'll only meet her at the funeral", Tarishi's Aunt Bhavna Jain told NDTV.
Tarishi was one among the 20 hostages who were murdered by the terrorists at the Holey Artisan Bakery located in the diplomatic quarter of the capital. External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj confirmed the death of the teenager on Twitter after her cousin Saloni tried to reach out to her.
Sushma Swaraj further added that Tarishi had finished her schooling from the American School in Dhaka and was pursuing her studies at the University of California, Berkeley.
According to the released hostages, the terrorists spared only those who were able to recite verses from the Quran. Six terrorists were killed and one was captured in a bloody 11-hour siege at the cafe. Though the Islamic State (IS) group has claimed responsibility for the attack, the Bangladeshi government says that it was not an IS act.
