The Delhi Police apprehended Riyaz Ahmed, an alleged active member of the Pakistan-based terrorist outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), operating in Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara district, on Tuesday. The arrest, conducted by officers from the New Delhi Railway Station police station, comes amidst ongoing investigations into a recently uncovered terror plot in the region.

Riyaz Ahmed, reportedly a retired Army soldier, is believed to be a key conspirator in the foiled terror module in Kupwara, which aimed to carry out attacks in the area. According to police sources, Riyaz was involved in coordinating with Khursheed Ahmad Rather and Ghulam Sarwar Rather to receive arms and ammunition from across the Line of Control (LOC) with the assistance of LeT terrorist handlers based in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (POK), namely Manzoor Ahmad Sheikh and Qazi Mohammad Khushal.

The arrest follows specific information received from Jammu and Kashmir investigation agencies, implicating Riyaz in the recent terror module case where five individuals were apprehended, and significant incriminating material, including five AK rifles (short), five AK magazines, and 16 short AK rounds, were recovered.

Acting swiftly upon receiving intelligence that Riyaz Ahmed, a resident of New Gabra village in Tehsil Karnah District Kupwara, J&K, was expected to arrive at New Delhi Railway Station, the Delhi Police made the arrest. Alongside Riyaz's apprehension, authorities recovered a mobile phone and a SIM card from his possession.

Riyaz Ahmed has been detained under the appropriate sections of the law, and Jammu and Kashmir Police officials have been duly informed for further necessary action.
