Couple dies as husband gets crushed under hefty wife

Synopsis

 

In a bizarre incident, an elderly couple met a tragic end after they slipped down on a staircase in their house located in Ramdham Society at the posh Kalavad Road in Rajkot.

 

The deceased have been identified as 68-year-old Manjula Vithlani and her husband Natvarlal.

 

Vithlani reportedly was rushing up stairs to tend to her son Ashish who had developed a breathing problem. The woman, who weighed 128 kgs lost her balance and fell on top of her husband who was following her up the stairs.

 

Natvarlal was crushed under her weight and suffered serious head injuries.

 

"At around 4 am, Nisha (Ashish’s wife) came downstairs to get some medicine for Ashish. Her in-laws also woke up and hurriedly tried to go upstairs to check his health. However, Manjula lost her balance and slipped, she fell on Natvarlal who was climbing the stairs behind her. They were rushed to a private hospital where both were declared dead due to a cerebral haemorrhage," said Rajkot Taluka police station officials.

 

Pradhyuman Ravaiya, the investigating officer from Rajkot taluka police station, said, "The couple always remained anxious about their son's health. When they realised he had taken ill, they tried to reach the first floor in a hurry."

 

Ashish and his wife Nisha lived on the first floor of the bungalow, while the couple stayed on the ground floor. A panic-stricken Nisha tried to reach out to the couple, but she also slipped on the floor and suffered injuries on her leg.
