Coronavirus: Uttar Pradesh health minister Atul Garg tests positive for COVID-19

Synopsis

Atul Garg is the latest minister in the Yogi Adityanath Cabinet to test positive for the coronavirus infection.

Atul Garg, Uttar Pradesh minister of state for health and family welfare tested positive for coronavirus on August 18. The minister requested all those who came in contact with him to be tested for the disease.

In a tweet in Hindi, he said that on August 15 RTPCR test was conducted and he tested negative. And on August 17, in the rapid test conducted at around 9 pm, he tested positive.

Two Uttar Pradesh ministers have succumbed to coronavirus in the state. They are Kamal Rani Varun and Chetan Chauhan.

The number of coronavirus cases in India rose by 55,079 to 27,02,742 on August 18. The toll rose to 51,797 after 826 more deaths were reported in the last 24 hours.

As many as 19,77,779 people in India have recovered from the coronavirus so far.
