Coronavirus: Relief for Infosys techies; company says no layoffs

At the annual general body meeting, Indian IT giant Infosys’ reply has comes as a big relief after its COO said the company will honour all the offer letters, which means no layoffs

Bengaluru: In a major relief to Infosys techies amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the IT giant is said to have issued an undertaking on Saturday (June 27) that the company will not layoff its staff, according to a report.

At the annual general body meeting on Saturday, Infosys COO Pravin Rao said the company will be honouring all the offer letters it had issued and will review the employees’ joining dates.

The COO also mentioned a new model in which a few employees will be given work from home option while others will have to come to the office keeping all the safety aspects in mind.

With a huge business potential in US specially at times of pandemic and the government there putting a ban on Indians flying on H-1B Visa to work for Infosys, it is reported that Infosys chairman Nandan Nilekani mentioned that the company has already hired over 10,000 Americans in the US and is planning to hire more in the future.

Besides this, the company is planning to open four more technology and innovation hubs, for which it has hired over 19,000 college graduates from campuses across India for the same purpose.

The news comes at a time when most of the firms are shutting down and downsizing due to the coronavirus crisis.
