
Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala recorded the highest single day spike with 5,376 new COVID-19 cases on September 23. 2,591 recoveries were also reported in the state.
With this, the active number of coronavirus cases in Kerala rises to 42,786. 1,04,682 people have been cured of the novel coronavirus in the state.

Out of the fresh infections, 4,424 were through contact and the infection source of 640 remains unknown. 20 deaths were also confirmed due to COVID-19.
As many as 99 health workers were also confirmed to have contracted the infection. Among the new COVID cases reported, 64 persons had returned from abroad while 140 returned from other states.
According to reports, 51,200 samples were tested in the state.
Earlier the day, state agricultural minister V Sunil Kumar tested positive for the novel coronavirus. Sunil Kumar is the third minister in the Pinarayi Vijayan Cabinet to have been infected by the viral disease.
