Coronavirus: Infosys brings back 200 employees from US via chartered flight

Infosys’ 200 stranded employees and their families were brought to Bengaluru by the IT giant in a special chartered flight from San Francisco  

Bengaluru: IT giant Infosys brought back their 200 employees and families from San Francisco to Bengaluru in a chartered flight amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis.

As per reports, Samir Gosavi, Infosys Associate Vice President – Retail, CPG and Logistics, said, “Infosys' chartered flight took off from San Francisco (SFO) last night, bringing home hundreds of employees and their families to Bengaluru.”

There are also reports of an employee going public about their families and themselves struggling to get tickets in the government’s Vande Bharat Mission which has brought back thousands of stranded Indians from abroad.

“Infosys heeded to employees’ requests and arranged for the chartered flight to help them as they were struggling to get tickets via the Vande Bharat mission. Also, only people with critical and valid reasons are allowed to take these flights. Still there were hundreds of employees who want to return back, but could not due to the criteria set for returning," an employee said.

It is said hundreds of India's are stranded in the US as international flights stand cancelled. And Infosys took the step in cases of its employees only for the valid and personal reasons. Some of the employees’ visas had expired and they had to return to India.
