New Delhi: India's COVID-19 tally went past 15-lakh on Wednesday, two days after it crossed the 14-lakh mark, with 48,513 fresh cases recorded in a day while the recoveries surged to 9,88,029, according to the Union health ministry data.
The total coronavirus cases climbed to 15,31,669, while the country's death toll due to the disease rose to 34,193 with 768 deaths being reported in a 24-hour span, the data updated at 8 am showed.
There are 5,09,447 active cases of coronavirus infection in the country presently.
The recovery rate among COVID-19 patients has risen to 64.51%.
The total number of confirmed cases also includes foreigners.

Maharashtra is inching towards recording 4 lakh coronavirus cases as the tally in the state rose to 3,91,440 on Tuesday with the addition of 7,717 new cases, state health minister Rajesh Tope said. With 282 patients succumbing to the infection, the death toll mounted to 14,165, he said.
The state makes up nearly a fourth of the number of cases across India.
Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu recorded its highest single-day count for the sixth consecutive day with 6,972 fresh cases reported in the state on Tuesday. With this, the state COVID-19 tally has risen to 2,27,688. Among these, Chennai reported 1107 positive cases, bringing the city’s total to 96,438.
A day after reporting a noteworthy dip in daily coronavirus cases, the national capital added 1,056 new COVID-19 patients, authorities said on Tuesday while not a single death was reported for the first time in two months at the LNJP hospital, a dedicated COVID-19 facility under the city government.
The total number of coronavirus cases climbed to 1,32,275. With 28 fatalities, the death toll stood at 3,881, the health bulletin issued on Tuesday said.
A total of 1,77,43,740 samples for COVID-19 were tested across the country as of Tuesday, said the Indian Council of Medical Research.
"The total number of COVID-19 samples tested up to July 28 is 1,77,43,740 including 4,08,855 samples tested yesterday," said the ICMR in a bulletin shared on Twitter.
