Coronavirus: India’s COVID-19 caseload breaches 59-lakh mark with spike of 88,600 new cases

Synopsis

Over 59.9 lakh coronavirus cases have been detected so far in India, with 88,600  new cases reported in the last 24 hours.  


New Delhi: India's COVID-19 tally sprinted past 59.9 lakh with 88,600 fresh cases in a span of 24 hours, while over 49 lakh people have recovered from the disease so far, according to the Union Health Ministry's data updated on Sunday.

The total coronavirus cases rose to 59.9 lakh with 88,600 infections being reported in a day, while the death toll reached  94,503, the data updated at 8am showed. Over 1,000 deaths were also recorded in the last 24 hours.

The health ministry had said on Saturday that 75% of Covid-19 cases are found concentrated in 10 states and Union Territories.

The 10 states and UTs are Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, Delhi, West Bengal and Chhattisgarh.

Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said 7,12,57,836 samples were tested up to September 26 for COVID-19. Of these, 9,87,861 samples were tested yesterday.
