
New Delhi: With 434 people succumbing to coronavirus in a day, India's COVID-19 death toll rose to 17,834 while the total tally climbed to 6,04,641 after 19,148 new cases were reported on Thursday (July 1), according to the Union health ministry data.
The number of active cases stands at 2,26,947 while 3,59,860 people have recovered, and one patient has migrated, according to the updated data.
The total number of confirmed cases include foreigners.
The growth rate of 3.6% for one lakh cases on June 26 — when India breached the half-million mark — fell to 3.5% on Wednesday. Similarly, the growth rate of fatalities dropped from 2.9% to 2.6% in the same period.
With 1,80,298 confirmed novel coronavirus cases, Maharashtra remains the worst-affected state in the country.
Meanwhile, with 89,802 confirmed novel coronavirus cases, Delhi remains severely impacted. According to the latest data from the Union health ministry, the national capital has reported 2,803 COVID-19 deaths so far. As many as 59,992 patients have recovered.
Around 90% of total infections in India are in just 10 states — Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Delhi, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Haryana and Karnataka.
Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) on Thursday said that the total number of samples tested up to July 1 is 90,56,173 of which 2,29,588 samples were tested on Wednesday.
