India once again reported the highest single-day spike in fresh coronavirus cases with 26,506 new cases recorded in 24 hours
New Delhi: India saw yet another record single-day jump of 26,506 COVID-19 cases pushing its tally to 7.93 lakh on Friday (July 10).
India COVID-19 tally now stands at 7,93,802 while the death toll climbed to 21,604 with 475 people succumbing to the infection, according to the Union health ministry data.
The number of recoveries stands at 4,95,51, while there are 2,76,685 active cases of coronavirus infection presently in the country, the updated data at 8 am showed.
"Thus, around 62.42% of patients have recovered so far," an official said.
The total number of confirmed cases included foreigners.
Maharashtra, which is the worst-affected state in India, has recorded 2.30 lakh coronavirus cases and 9,667 deaths while Tamil Nadu, which is the second worst-affected state, has recorded 1.26 lakh COVID cases. Delhi, a Union Territory, has reported the third-highest COVID numbers in India with over 1.07 lakh coronavirus cases.
Of the 475 deaths, 219 are from Maharashtra, 65 from Tamil Nadu, 45 from Delhi, 27 from West Bengal, 17 from Uttar Pradesh, 16 from Karnataka, 15 from Gujarat, 13 from Andhra Pradesh, nine from Rajasthan, eight from Bihar, seven from Telangana, six from Assam, five each from Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab, four from Odisha and one from Chhattisgarh, Goa, Jharkhand and Meghalaya.
Meanwhile, the Uttar Pradesh government has announced a lockdown in the state from 10 pm today (July 10) to 5 am on Monday (July 13). During this period, movement will be permitted only for medical and essential services. All markets, including food grain markets and other establishments, will remain closed and the supply of essentials will be ensured through doorstep delivery.
