Coronavirus: 7 Thiruvananthapuram councillors test positive for COVID-19

Seven councillors of Thiruvananthapuram Municipal Corporation have tested positive for COVID-19 following which corporation mayor went into self-quarantine

Thiruvananthapuram: A total of seven councillors of Thiruvananthapuram Municipal Corporation in Kerala have tested positive for COVID-19 in the state's capital.

On Thursday (July 23), three councillors were infected with coronavirus and on Wednesday, councillors of Vazhottukonam, Cheruvaikal, Muttada and Pattom wards tested positive after 25 councillors and staff underwent tests.

According to reports, all four councillors who tested positive on Wednesday are now in IMG hostel and are asymptomatic.

Those who tested positive on Wednesday have spent a complete day at the corporation office on Tuesday and had come in contact with other staff and councillors.

Kerala's daily COVID-19 cases continued to witness a sharp rise with 1,078 people testing positive, a new single-day high, on Thursday, as the infection count soared past 16,000 while the toll mounted to 50 with five more deaths.

This is the second consecutive day that the fresh positive cases have crossed the 1,000 mark, taking the tally to 16,110.
