Synopsis

A 3-year-old girl from Kalyan was diagnosed with coronavirus on Monday. The diagnosis came after her father, who had returned from the US and her mother also tested positive for Covid-19.

Mumbai: With the number of positive cases increasing rapidly in Maharashtra, the state that has reported the highest number of cases of the highly contagious illness, a 3-year-old child has tested positive in Mumbai. Both her parents have also tested positive for the viral infection.

An India Today report stated that according to doctors at Mumbai's Kasturba Hospital, the child's father, 37, has a history of travel to the United States. He tested positive for Covid-19 earlier and was kept in isolation at Kasturba Hospital. His daughter and wife, 33, were also kept in isolation and later tested positive.

On Monday, six new cases of coronavirus were reported in Maharashtra.

India registered its third coronavirus-linked death in Mumbai as a 64-year-old, who had tested positive, passed away at Kasturba Hospital on Tuesday. The patient was among the 36 confirmed coronavirus patients in Maharashtra, the state that has reported the highest number of cases of the highly contagious illness. The man had reportedly returned from Dubai.

In a bid to prevent the spread of coronavirus, the state has stopped all examinations and instructed college and school staff to work from home till March 25.

The state has announced Rs 45 crore as aid to fight the outbreak. Collectors have been granted powers to procure ventilators and other equipment. Chief minister Uddhav Thackeray said collectors are responsible for implementing preventive measures.
