Weddings are a season of celebration and merriment. And in true Indian style, the chances of having a small wedding on a budget, is, well, unthinkable.
However, one couple in Surat, managed to do pull it off. And they can thank the demonitization drive for that.
As a direct result of demonetization, this couple ended up spending ₹500 for their wedding.
According to a report in the Deccan Chronicle, the couple decided to serve their guests' tea and water. “We were initially tense after Modiji made the demonetisation announcement as our wedding date was fixed. Later after considering the situation, we decided to get married without much grandeur by offering just tea and water to guests."
Even PM Modi had mentioned this wedding in his Mann ki Baat highlights. NDTV had reported that, "I also got aware of a wedding on 'Chai pe charcha'. Surat's Bharat Madu and Daksha Parmar just served tea as a welcome drink and didn't throw a party for the event.
