While the Delhi high court ordered the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to restore moderation of marks, they seem to have gone overboard with up to 11 marks given in accountancy, 10 in mathematics and eight in physics and chemistry.
CBSE also gave up to 10 marks as grace for candidates who failed to get qualifying marks.
According to documents accessed by the Times of India, papers were segregated in sets. In physics where eight marks were given in moderation, set 2 and set 3 of the same subject received one extra mark.
Ashok K Ganguly, former CBSE chairperson, told the Times of India that moderation of marks is a necessity for CBSE but it should be done judiciously.
CBSE wanted to do away with marks moderation from this year. But this was overruled by the Delhi High Court. The board also gave away grace marks as high as 10 while the grace marks used to be three to four back in 2009.
