Students learning Hindi at the Busan University of Foreign Studies have appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to reach out to the institution over to its decision to end the language course next year.
In a video on Facebook, South Korean students who have been learning the language claimed that their institution felt that the Hindi wasn't an important language and consequently decided to pull the plug on the course in 2021.
The decision by the Busan University of Foreign Studies to close the 37-year-old Hindi language course at the institution has drawn a sharp response from the student community in South Korea.
The University is reportedly replacing Hindi with the English language on the ground that the English language is used more widely than Hindi in India.
The students termed Hindi as a bridge between India and South Korea cultures.
