Bengaluru rains: 344 families get Rs 25,000 compensation cheques

Two days after heavy rains created havoc in Bengaluru, on Sunday BBMP has issued cheques of Rs 25,000 each to the families whose houses were flooded by rainwater. The cheques have been issued after CM BS Yediyurappa visited the rain hit areas and promised immediate compensation.


Bengaluru: After heavy rains created havoc in Bengaluru on Friday, the Bengaluru Bruhat Mahanagara Palike (BBMP)has issued cheques of Rs 25,000 each to the families whose houses were flooded by rainwater.

The cheques have been issued after Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa visited the rain hit areas on Saturday and promised immediate compensation.

The cheques were distributed to 344 households in the city together, 304 households in Dattatreya Nagar and 40 in Kumaraswamy Layout, by Karnataka Revenue Minister R Ashoka and BBMP Administrator Gaurav Gupta.

The BBMP officials stated Rs 86 lakh compensation was handed over in total on Sunday.

Earlier on Saturday, speaking to the media CM BS Yediyurappa had stated “The BBMP officials and R Ashoka visited me at my house, and we had a discussion on further steps to be taken. We are doing a survey of all the areas now. Each affected family will be given a cheque of Rs 25,000 by Saturday evening. Close to 700 families will receive the check. I have discussed prevention methods to avoid the situation in the future. The storm water drain construction which caused the havoc will be completed soon to avoid further problems”.

Heavy rains on October 23 lead to cars floating in Gurudutta Layout near Hosakerehalli alongside Vrishabhavathi drain. Vehicles in the basement of some apartments and houses in the low-lying areas were also submerged.

Traffic was disrupted on Mysuru Road, Silk Board junction, Hosur road, Bannerghatta road, Basavanagudi, Nayandahalli, RR Nagar, BG Road, and other roads.
