Bengaluru: NCB seizes 3-kg drugs worth crores hidden in lehenga, bound for Australia

On October 21, a team led by Amit Ghawate, Zonal Director of NCB Bangalore, intercepted the shipment and recovered around 3 kg of white-coloured crystalline material, suspected to be pseudoephedrine hidden in three lehengas.


Narcotics Control Bureau agents confiscated around 3 kilogrammes of drugs worth crores in Bengaluru based on a tip. Officials stated the shipment, which was to be delivered to Australia, was disguised in three lehengas and that one individual had been detained in connection with the case. On October 21, a team led by Amit Ghawate, Zonal Director of NCB Bangalore, intercepted the shipment and recovered around 3 kg of white-coloured crystalline material, suspected to be pseudoephedrine hidden in three lehengas.

The prohibited material was discovered after opening each fold of the lehengas' fall line. The cargo was scheduled to be sent to Australia from Narasapuram in Andhra Pradesh. The package was tracked, and the consignor to Chennai was discovered. The information was relayed to the NCB team in Chennai, who investigated for two days before identifying the valid address of the parcel sender and apprehending him on Friday. It was discovered that the item was sent using forged addresses and documentation. It is currently being investigated.

Earlier, on Monday, a special court granted the National Investigation Agency 10-day detention of three people detained in connection with the seizure of 2,988 kg of heroin at Gujarat's Mundra Port last month. The accused, who was also charged under the anti-terrorism legislation UAPA, were apprehended by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence before the matter was handed to the NIA earlier this month. The three accused were charged under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, and the case was being heard by a special NDPS court in Bhuj, Kutch district. The case involves the interception of heroin disguised as a shipment of semi-processed talc stones from Afghanistan, which came at the Mundra Port from the Bandar Abbas Port in Iran.
