Bengaluru: Heavy downpour, poor infrastructure waterlogs city once again

Bengaluru experienced heavy rains once again on Wednesday. Shops in market areas like Chickpet and Sultanpet were partially submerged with rain and drainage water.

Bengaluru: Bengaluru experienced heavy rains for two consecutive days and the poor infrastructure of the city’s drainage system has left the entire city waterlogged.

The city experienced a rainfall of 45.2mm from Tuesday to Wednesday night.

The heavy rainfall on Tuesday saw waterlogging in Yelahanka, Jakkur, Yeshwanthpur, Basaveshwarnagar, Hessarghatta, Peenya, Chikkabanavara, Mahadevpura, Horamavu, Rammurthynagar, KR Puram and HAL.

Now, the rains which lashed the city on Wednesday started waterlogging the city centre too.

Roads in market areas like Chickpet and Sultanpet were completely submerged and shops were partially submerged with rain and drainage water.

The roads were filled with water above knee level, and many two wheelers parked were seen almost completely submerged.

The rain and drainage water started entering shops in the market area and shopkeepers were seen trying to push back the water.

Some helpless shopkeepers were seen sitting on higher levels or counters inside their shops because of the civic bodies’ apathy.  

This is not the first time Bengaluru has experienced something like this. Every time the city experiences rain above 50mm the poor infrastructure leads to this kind of distress.
