Bengaluru now possesses South India's first fixed-wing air ambulance. Air ambulance services will be available for Southern India. The air ambulance comes equipped with a German COVID-19 pod.
Bengaluru: Despite having thousands of ambulances in the city, many people lose their lives as ambulances move slow because of the heavy traffic.
There is finally some relief as Bengaluru received its first ever air ambulance.
Keeping the current pandemic in mind this ambulance comes with an equipped German Isolation pod which will help in the safe transportation of COVID-19 patients.
Though the air ambulance may save lives and make commuting faster, the price of the air ambulance does not make it affordable for everyone.
ICATT (International Critical Air Transfer Team), India's only air ambulance company has tied up with Kyathi, an aviation technology firm to make this facility in the city
Chief minister BS Yediyurappa and most of the ministers of Karnataka government including two deputy CMs, health minister, medical education minister and tourism minister inaugurated the Bengaluru-based ICATT Kyathi's integrated air ambulance services at Jakkur Aerodrome on Tuesday.
"During times of emergency providing timely and speedy medical care and treatment is of paramount importance. The introduction of ICATT Kyathi's Integrated Air Ambulance service will ensure not only quick medical assistance but also high-quality care delivered by senior doctors and paramedics trained in critical care, while in flight,” said the chief minister.
Yediyurappa also quoted “I am happy that ICATT Kyathi chose to station the air ambulance in Bengaluru, catering better not only to the city but to the whole of South India. I am also glad that we have taken this initiative at a time such as the COVID-19 pandemic when healthcare concerns are higher than normal".

It is reported that years ago, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) had considered the idea of a heli-ambulance and even decided to set up helipads in various zones across the city to facilitate the same.
However, due to various reasons, the idea was not executed.
