Bengaluru: 12 lakh passengers opt for BMTC buses every day, despite COVID-19

Synopsis

The Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) has witnessed a good increase in the number of passengers after Unlock 4.0. Close to 12 lakh passengers used the BMTC services every day in September.

Bengaluru: Despite the bus services being resumed earlier last month there were very few people opting to travel due to COVID-19.

However, after the nationwide Unlock:4.0 Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) is seeing an increase in the number of passengers every day.

Before the lockdown close to 35 lakh passengers travelled in BMTC buses every day, but in August only 10 lakh passengers opted for the bus service.

The BMTC officials claim that there is an increase now, as close to 12 lakh passengers are using the bus services every day.

A senior BMTC official stated that the number of passengers is expected to increase in the coming days.

With a total of six and a half thousand buses, only four thousand buses are being operated now by the BMTC.

These four thousand buses operate at different time schedules and different bus routes.

Despite undergoing losses, the BMTC is continuing to operate and serve the citizens as the bus services come under the essential services.
