Bengal government promotes IPS officer pulled up by MHA

The Mamata Banerjee government promoted and transferred several IPS officers in the state on Monday.

Rajeev Mishra, the 1996 batch IPS officer IG of South Bengal, has now been promoted as ADG South Bengal. Meanwhile, Bholanath Pandey, who was SP Diamond Harbour, was transferred to the less significant post of SP Home Guard.

After the attack on JP Nadda’s convoy in West Bengal on December 20, the Union ministry of home affairs posted three IPS officers from the state on central deputation for five years. The officers were responsible for JP Nadda’s security.

The MHA in its second directive on December 16 ordered the transfer of Mishra to ITBP, Pandey to Bureau of Police Research and Tripathi to SSB DIG.

The Bengal government, however, refused to release the three IPS officers. Mamata Banerjee said that the Centre’s order was unconstitutional and completely unacceptable.
