The Trinamool Congress has demanded the removal of Sudeep Jain, the deputy election commissioner in-charge of West Bengal. A letter was written to the Chief Electoral Officer on Thursday (March 4) recommending Sudeep Jain’s removal. The letter was delivered by Trinamool Congress MP Derek O'Brien.

Speaking at the press conference, Saugat Roy said, "The Trinamool Congress does not think that Sudip Jain will remain neutral. If he is in charge, there will be no free elections.”

In a letter to the Chief Electoral Officer of West Bengal, Derek O'Brien said, “We have serious doubt that Shri Sudip Jain would be impartial and his approach towards all parties would not be equal. He is tilted towards the BJP, the reason why all his actions were favourable towards the party. We have no confidence in Sri Sudip Jain.”
“In light of the above, we call upon you to withdraw Sudip Jain an in-charge of on behalf of Election Commission of India for West Bengal Assembly Election, 2021,” the letter added.
The Trinamool Congress demanded the removal of Deputy Election Commissioner Sudip Jain at a time when preparations for the first phase of elections in the state were nearing completion.
MP Saugata Roy said, “Sudip Jain decided to appoint a CRPF officer as the head of the Quick Response Team during the Lok Sabha elections which is unconstitutional. The Election Commission does not have this right. But Amit Shah did not take action against Sudip Jain. Later, however, the Election Commission was forced to withdraw the decision.”
It may be mentioned that before announcing the election schedule, Deputy Election Commissioner Sudip Jain came to Bengal in two phases to check the preparations for the polls.
