Bank holidays in October: 21 holidays in upcoming month; plan your work accordingly

In all, banks may expect approximately 21 holidays in October, which is very substantial. The RBI has declared 14 bank holidays for October, with the weekend holidays, which include Sundays and the second and fourth Saturdays, totalling seven days off.

According to the Reserve Bank of India's schedule of official bank holidays for October, banks may expect a spate of leaves. The forthcoming calendar month is jam-packed with vacations and festivities, and many banks in India's major cities will be closed. In all, banks may expect approximately 21 holidays in October, which is very substantial.

  • October 1 – Half Yearly Closing of Bank Accounts (Only applicable in Gangtok)
  • October 2 – Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti
  • October 3 - Sunday
  • October 6 – Mahalaya Amavasye (Only in Agartala, Bengaluru, Kolkata)
  • October 7 - Mera Chaoren Houba (only in Imphal)

  • October 9 – 2nd Saturday
  • October 10 - Sunday
  • October 12 – Durga Puja (Maha Saptami) (Only in Agartala, Kolkata)
  • October 13 – Maha Ashtami (in Agartala, Bhubaneswar, Gangtok, Guwahati, Kolkata, Patna, Ranchi)
  • October 14 - Durga Puja or Dussehra (in Agartala, Bengaluru, Chennai, Gangtok, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kochi, Kolkata, Lucknow, Patna, Ranchi, Shillong, Srinagar, Thiruvananthapuram)
  • October 15 – Durga Puja or Dusshera (Vijaya Dashmi)
  • October 16 – Dasain (Only in Gangtok)
  • October 17 - Sunday
  • October 18 – Kati Bihu (Guwahati)

  • October 23 – 4th Saturday
  • October 24 – Sunday
  • October 26 – Accession Day (Solely in Jammu, Srinagar)
  • October 31 - Sunday

It's safe to say that the upcoming calendar month is jam-packed with holidays, so don't panic. Remember that, except a few days this month, most holidays are spaced out and will only occur in a few states and towns.
