Ban burqas, terrorists use them to enter India: UP minister Raghuraj Singh

Uttar Pradesh minister Raghuraj Singh again courted controversy by demanding a ban on burqas worn by Muslim women. In Shaheen Bagh, most of those wearing burqa are misusing it, he added.                    

Aligarh: Uttar Pradesh minister Raghuraj Singh on February 10 stoked controversy while demanding that the Centre and the state government should impose a ban on 'burqa' as terrorists use the burqa to enter the country.

 Singh, who holds a Cabinet rank post in the UP government told media, "I demand the state and the Central government to ban burqas, as terrorists use the burqa to enter the country. Likewise, in Shaheen Bagh these days most of those wearing burqa are misusing it. Therefore, its usage should be stopped."

He added that the burqa is banned in Sri Lanka, China, Japan and America along with many other non-Muslim countries. And to end terrorism, burqa must be banned.

Singh has courted controversy earlier too. On January 30, he said that "anti-nationals" will be given 'kutte-ki-maut' (dog's death). He also went on to say that the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) can be renamed as 'Hindustan University'.

"Whosoever is indulged in anti-national activities will be given 'kutte ki maut' (dog's death). The police have been instructed to kill such persons immediately in the encounter," he had said.

"I want to say it to the 'mullahs' of the Aligarh Muslim University that whenever we want we will change its name to Hindustan University," he had said.
