Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh’s Yogi Adityanath government has issued a list of guidelines for next week’s Bakrid festival.
The state government said mass gatherings in mosques for performing namaz will not be allowed amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic in the state and Muslims will have to offer namaz in their respective homes on the occasion of Eid ul Adha.
Bakrid will be celebrated on August 1 (Saturday) in India, Markazi Chand Committee in Lucknow announced.
Leading Muslim institution Darloom Ullum from Deoband had demanded the government to issue guidelines for Eid while several Muslim organisations wanted mass prayers to be allowed in masjids.
The Uttar Pradesh government has given special instructions to state police to tighten security for Bakrid and last Monday of the auspicious Sawan month.
The government has also banned transportation of meat, and slaughtering of animals in the open.
