In a boost to domestic carmakers and other lightweight vehicles, manufacturers who used to send their vehicles for speed testing abroad can now avail the same facility in India as Asia's longest speed testing track, NATRAX (National Automotive Test Tracks) was inaugurated in Madhya Pradesh.  The oval-shaped testing track measures 16 meters in width. It has 4 separate lanes and is of 11.3 km length.

The new facility is at Pithampur in Madhya Pradesh and the track is developed under National Automotive Testing and R&D Infrastructure Project by the Heavy Industries Ministry and can also hold commercial racing events.

Range of tests like high-speed limit, brake performance, emission testing, fuel consumption, durability test, product launching, racing events all can be expected at this track.

As per reports, automobile giants like Renault, Volkswagen, FCA, Peugeot, and Lamborghini have also expressed their interest in using the facility for product launch and conduct other events.

As per Union Minister Prakash Javadekar, the new high-speed track here in India is the 5th longest speed track in the world. This apart the new track is better in terms of facilities compared to the high-speed tracks in China and Japan.
