A domestic dispute in Rangareddy district ended in tragedy when a labourer allegedly killed his wife and young son, while critically injuring his daughter. The incident occurred late Monday night in Puligonipalli thanda, Amangal mandal.
Police identified the accused as Banavath Ramdas Naik, who was taken into custody soon after the attack. His wife Kavitha, 31, and son Harshit, 7, died on the spot. His daughter Pranitha, 9, was rushed to Osmania General Hospital in Hyderabad, where she remains in critical condition.
According to Amangal inspector K Venkateswarlu, the violence stemmed from repeated arguments over Naik’s drinking habit. “They had an argument again and in a fit of rage, Naik picked up a pestle from the kitchen and attacked Kavitha on the head. She collapsed on the spot,” the inspector said.
Hearing the commotion, Harshit and Pranitha woke up to see their mother lying injured. As they screamed for help, Naik turned on them with the pestle, striking both children on the head. Harshit succumbed immediately, while Pranitha was left with severe injuries.
Neighbours alerted police, who detained Naik from the hamlet. A case has been registered under sections 103(1) (murder) and 109 (attempt to murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Inspector Venkateswarlu confirmed that the bodies of Kavitha and Harshit were sent for post‑mortem examination. “We shifted Pranitha to OGH. Her condition is critical,” he added.
The incident has shocked the local community, with residents describing the family as quiet and hardworking. Police said Naik’s alcoholism had been a source of tension for years, culminating in Monday night’s fatal confrontation.
