Alagiri to float new party, join hands with BJP for Tamil Nadu election?

Alagiri has called for a meeting with his close aides on November 20 in Madurai where a decision could be taken on starting a new party. Sources suggesting that he is likely to meet Home Minister Amit Shah on November 21.

Late DMK stalwart M Karunanidhi's elder son MK Alagiri could upset the plans of younger brother MK Stalin in the run up to the 2021 elections in Tamil Nadu.

There are reports that Alagiri is planning to float his own political party in the days to come.

Alagiri dropped enough hints when he spoke to the media. 

Alagiri said: "I will announce my decision after consulting with my supporters on whether to support anyone in the 2021 legislative elections or to start a new party." 

"You will find out for yourself the status of the DMK after the 2021 Assembly elections. There is a political vacuum in Tamil Nadu after the death of Karunanidhi and Jayalalithaa."

Alagiri was removed from the DMK in 2014 for anti-party activities. He has been out of politics ever since. His last major appearance was in September 2018, when he organised a rally in Chennai, 30 days after Karunanidhi's death.
